The following question is from Katie L.
“We are new at homeschooling our four young children; our eldest will officially begin Kindergarten in the Fall. Our hearts (and gut!) are telling us that homeschooling is a good fit for our family, but our relatives are not shy in verbalizing their dismay. We have been told, “Oh, you don’t want to homeschool. You want to make sure they get a solid foundation during these early years.” and “Socially, they will always be behind their peers.”
These comments are hurtful (What do you mean I can’t provide a solid foundation for my child?!) and are beginning to affect our relationships with relatives. Being new to homeschooling, we already feel some apprehension, so it doesn’t help that we are surrounded by unsupportive relatives.”
